Wood Objects 2016
Cancellation of Wood Objects
September 8, 2016
We regret to announce that WoodWorks 2016 and Wood Objects have been cancelled due to disappointing registration. Refunds will be provided to those who have already registered. The Woodworks Committee has sufficient reserve funds to meet expenses already committed.
To those who supported us in this endeavour, we thank you and apologize for your inconvenience and disappointment.
“We have decided to cancel at this stage to minimize inconvenience and limit losses,” said Wayne Richardson, chair of the organizing committee and a vice president of the Ottawa Woodworkers Association. “To hold the event but not sell enough tickets to cover costs risks a much larger overall loss. For a small community group this is simply not a situation we could contemplate.”
“Our challenge was to choose a program of speakers and other events that would meet the needs of the woodworking community. Clearly we failed to meet their needs”, said Richardson. “Our goal has been to provide the best possible woodworking information programming. We will be taking a hard look at what happened and what we need to do going forward.”
Submission fees sent to us using PayPal will be refunded today using PayPal. Refunds to go out by other means will be started today.
Wood Objects is open to the public and free of charge. It is a juried competition held in conjunction with Woodworks 2016. Fine furniture and other objects crafted primarily of wood will be on display beginning Friday evening, September 23, through to early afternoon on Sunday the 25th. Whereas winners will be chosen by the jurors, the public is invited to participate by voting on a People's Choice Award.
